Electric-line broadband
My brother was telling me he read an article in our newspaper about this,so I did a little surfing and found this article.Seems like they are trying to make a system that will allow broadband service via your electric lines.
This would be a great thing for all the rural user's that have no broadband available. Heres the article I found. http://www.s-t.com/daily/02-03/02-10-03/a13wn074.htm

sounds like a good idea, but I just know they are gonna have more problems than you could even think of.

Yup, but I doubt it is as fast as optical fiber.
See, the electric lines are still copper wire. At least most of them.

In the power industry we multiplex (Transmitting another signal at a higher frequency) circuit protection signals down lines all the time. The big thing here will be to transmit the signal at a high enough frequency to not have interferance.
Right now you can buy devices that allow you to network in your house using your electrical plugs, but they have some interferance with the signals. |

The problem is going to be getting the signal through transformers.

My Company (a power Co.) worked with a firm that's equipment kept exploding (literally). It works great on OH power lines where you distribute to homes over coax or fiber. UG power lines are where the simplicity ends. Like I said when it causes the xfmr to go "boom!", it's back to the drawing board.
