we have a win2k server with win2k professional machines. My machine connects to the internet fine. But a new computer I put on the network cannot. I can't find any settings that are different on his than on mine. I can ping the router and our static IP address but I can't ping yahoo.com. Please help!

Run ipconfig/all from a command prompt and make sure it's getting a proper IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS from the DHCP server in the router.

i did that and all seems well but the machine lists a dhcp server equal to my router (which is my dhcp server). Mine machine which does contect to the internet does not have this listed when I do an ipconfig /all

Whoa...you're running a server, AND a router?
The machine that can't connect...is it connected before the router after the server or what? I'm confused |

I finally figured it out. One of the DNS server entries had a wrong number in the ip address. You know the old story, no matter how many times you look at it, it looks fine, even though it's wrong. Thanks anyway for everyones help.

Jim: I have several customers with this type of setup, and all I do is disable the DHCP server in the fileserver and let the router handle it. I also assign static IP's to the fileserver and all print servers.
