Ok, I’m getting frustrated with a web page and one of my machines. I visit this web sight quite often http://wwwa.accuweather.com especially when we have storms, this time of year winter storms. Anyhow, the web sight is really slow to load on only one of my machines. The other two machines load this page just fine. I have a cable internet network. I have not changed any settings to cause this problem. All other sights that I visit seem to work fine, but this one sight will load horribly slow and then the radar screen shows the little red x and won’t load at all. I am using IE 6.0.2800. I am at my wits end. I have checked all the settings that I can think of to no avail. I have cleared the cache, checked to make sure I have plenty of space for stored files. Help!
Thanks for any ideas. |

Do you have Netscape, or Mozzilla, or any other browser handy so you can see if it's an IE specific problem??

I don’t think it is IE specific because I have a nearly identical machine (for all practical purposes) right next to it and it works fine on that one. I think it has something to do with the settings on this machine. I did notice that the radar image on that web sight is a .gif. The selection bar to the right on that web page will not even load. I do have Zone Alarm and even tried shutting that down, no go. But, to answer your question, no sorry I don’t.

When you say cleared the cache, does that mean you went into options and deleted temporary internet files?

OK, Actually if this is the only page on that PC thats having trouble loading, but all others seem to be quick, then It is most likely an IE specific problem. You could check for updates which may help or did you reset IE options to defaults and start from there. I've monkeyed things up enough and used the set to defaults and got things back to where I need tham to be from there.

Wow, this is about to make me crazy, I found yet another sight that I am having problems with and this one will just not fly!!
http://www.newegg.com/ when I go to that page I get this BS, The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. Please try the following: •Click the Refresh button, or try again later. •If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. •To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP). •If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings. If you would like Windows to try and discover them, click Detect Network Settings •Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed. •If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0. •Click the Back button to try another link. Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer Please…please….please someone give me a bone to chew on. I have checked this sight on other machines I have and it comes up fine. HELP!! |

How are you networked?? Router?? If so what make and model??? Check your internet options settings at the connections tab LANSettings and make sure they are correct. I've always set mine to automatically detect settings, but I've seen recent post by glc where he suggests to leave everything unchecked there under LAN settings. I suppose I would just make sure those lan settings are the same on the problem machine as the other 2..
I have found that i check there ocasionally when I have problems with slow loading pages, and the box to automatically detect somehow gets unchecked... Last edited by ktkendall; 02-22-2003 at 09:38 AM. |

Thanks for the input. I checked the other machine settings, the automatically detect settings was checked on the other machines while on mine it was not. I checked it and still no change. I use a router, Netgear RT314. I have never had any problems with the internet or any of my hardware for the past year or so. I tend to think this problem popped up after I installed the IE6.0 SP1, but I could not be certain on that. I am still tweaking this machine with no positive results. I might be headed for a re-install. It’s the little problems that bug me the most!
