Wiped out win98 se, switched over to win2k pro permanently. I notice a big speed difference for my cable modem speed. I know that win2k optimized the network settings but didn't know it would make that much of a difference. Hmm... or maybe my win98 is full of junk.

You are correct, W2K is that much better for networking than win9x. I believe there is a regestry setting that is more optimized for networking in win2K than win98se.

Yes, that's true.
I get faster d/l's with same modem with Win2000 than I used to with Win98. Sometimes it starts @~25 kbps, then drops, but stays @5-8kbps. Pages on my PC with Win2000 loads faster than @work DSL. We actually got sh**ty DSL @ work- d/l's @ ~40-50kbps max I seen. |
