I posted this in the Internet Forum because it has to do with pictures saved from the internet.
When I see a picture I would like to have as my wallpaper, I save it to a folder and use it when I want a change of pace. I have two pictures that I would like to use but when I try to, it says I must have Active Dektop, do I want to enable it. I really don't want active desktop. Is there some special code in these pctures that won't let me use them unless I enable active desktop? Carl |

It appears to be the only way to have two pics on the desktop.

NK,
I don't want two pictures at the same time. I have two pictures that can't be used as wallpaper unless I have active desktop enabled. Carl |

Open them with a picture editor and save them as BMP's.

Gentlemen,
I have them saved as .bmp and I can get them on my desktop. Let me ask this question. Are there any security vulnerabilities to using Active Desktop? Carl |

I run active desktop with XP all the time and have yet to have a problem, I'm not sure if there are any security issues with it or not, but If I remember there was stability problems with it under 98.

I have also run AD, both in W98 and XP and never had probs. Aside from the quality of the wallpaper image degradating when you use the Scale option.

I have two images showing under active desktop in win98SE. One can be viewed only on startup (login screen) and shutdown, while the other just used as my regular wallpaper. As for scaling, try getting wallpaper that will fit you resolution, or just center or tile it.

I chose center. I'll try resizing the pic in PS to see if those rough edges can disappear.

I never use active desktop as I find it causes instabilities quite often, and somehow it causes the infamous Win98 shutdown problem as well.

I use a free program called infoview; not sure of the spelling. [I am at work] do a search for it. Infoview does a great job as a file viewer and will allow use of all pics as wallpaper.

You can use Paint to set a .bmp as your wallpaper - and Irfanview can set a .jpg as wallpaper.
