I have been banging my head on the wall over this one.
I have set up a guestbook on a site and changed the file permissions as follows The directory is set to CHMOD 777 (world) The form page is set to 744 (this is where the user enters his info) The 2 files being written to are set to 777 Here is the problem, the program works fine until someone writes to the guestbook. The files that are being written to have the permissions set to 777 and it works just fine. Sometimes it will accept 2 or 3 writes. But sometimes it will change its own file permission to 666 after being written to. I am having a problem figuring out why this is happening when it will work the first time (or possibly 2 or 3 times in a row) and then change to 666. Any help is appreciated.

Hmmm... I'll take a stab at it and say that it almost sounds like a umask thing.
What's your umask set at? |
