I would like to apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge.
Problem: I would like to host my own web site at home. But since I have Bell Atlantic ADSL (Varizon now) I can only get dynamic IP. I understand that I have to assign static IP to a web site (other wise when IP changes the site will go down) ?Solution?: I'm thinking, if I get Winproxy and assign an IP (I'm not sure but I think it's called sub IP) to my second machine it will always be the same, and there for I can host a web site on that machine. Is it a VERY dumb idea? If it is can someone propose something better? PS Getting new DSL service with SDSL and static IP is out of the question (have no money), Also I know the site will crawl but I only need it for myself. I want to start learning creating databases and code ASP. |

When you run a proxying or sharing, u are basically using the same IP as is provided to you, but u are creating a private network [IP ranges 192.168.x.x], this is not accessible to the rest of the world.
If all u want is a basic dynamic DNS services .. check out http://www.dynip.com or http://www.yi.org http://www.oth.net/dyndns.html has comparitive information. |
