Hi All.
Does anyone know of any compatibility problems between Netscape and M$? I have a client who needs Netscape Communicator 4.74 With this particular it seems as stable as a one-legged table. The only applications I have installed MS Windows 98SE and MS Office 97 Pro. It keeps causing "Invalid Page Faults" etc. TIA to all those who try to help. Kev...* |

My work machine has M$ office 97 (despite my entreaties
), and I have no problems with 4.74.It could just be a bad install. I'd run the install again, just copy it over itself. It'd help to know in what file the errors occur. Also, avoid the "smart update" Netscape downloads. Download the whole thing as one big executable from ftp.netscape.com , and then run a custom install without the added crap (feedback agent, smart download, etc.) Xayd |

I've found M$ can read NS Rich Text email but...
NS can not read M$ Rich Text email The workaround is to default to sending Plain Text (in the addresses properties) |

Pegasus reads and sends M$ Rich Text (RTF) very nicely.

Is there a special setting in there? It sure didn't work right out of the box. I even dug around looking for an option to import/read MS RTF. If you can shed light on that, I'd be VERY interested. |

Dave: I may have assumed something. Try the latest version - 3.12c - and search the help file for "rich". This is where I got my info from. It definitely says it uses MS RTF for *local* mail. I have never had problems reading any e-mail sent to me, but mail from M$ themselves pops up a box asking me if I want to open as regular mail or in a Web browser. If I choose regular, it opens all formatted nicely but with inoperable links. If I choose this option for HTML mail sent from Netscape, it opens the source code. So - I am *assuming* (dangerous, I know) that this formatted mail I receive from M$ is RTF.
I can't say for certain what format this stuff has been sent in because I *never* open my mail in a Web browser - I refuse to allow the chance of activating a "web bug". |

Hmm.. I believe I *was* using that version. I did remember seeing something to the effect of "Rich Text", but after sending and attempting to open a number of RTF messages, I was never prompted and I believe all I saw was the WINMAIL.DAT stuck on there as an attachment.
Honestly, I've been testing so many IMAP mail clients that they're all looking the same! I will take another look. |
