I administer a few webs I've built from scratch; I'm also on dial-up, which makes the job more difficult. I usually save after every satisfactory change I make. It takes at least 4 minutes to save each time.
My question is: can I download the whole web at one time (the address with its sub pages and folders) so I can work on it on my PC without being connected to the net? After I'm done with it, then upload it. Don't bug me about this, but I use FrontPage2000. It's pretty good for this sort of thing.

It is easy and usually better to work on it locally and then upload it. You get a chance to review it on your local machine before you post it on the website. I do all my coding and debugging locally before I upload the pages.
Not to bug you about FP, but if you continue to build sites, you are going to need an easier way to do it. Learn a language like PHP and couple it with a database like MySQL and it makes things a whole lot easier and gives you a whole lot more flexibility. Instead of having many different pages, you have just a few. Say you have a site that has 100 pages, and you want to change a link. The way I design the site, you change it one time and you are done. In FP, you would have to change all the pages. Something to consider. That and getting a faster connection to the Internet. |

That didn't realy help too much with what I am trying to do...
Yes, I know. I need a faster connection, but it's too expensive. ![]() About PHP and MySQl: I was going to try to learn it next year when I possibly set up my own server. So, back to the origional question, is there a prog that will allow me to download the whole website? |

Why dont you use WSFTP to download all the stuff? If you administer it, more than likely you could FTP to it and just download everything like that. Just a thought

You could try using something like CuteFTP and use the folder synchronization tool.

Phooey. FTPing is turned off on the server. I forgot about that... There was an... ummm..."Security Issue" envolved. No wonder it wouldn't work
![]() Any more suggestions that don't have to do with FTP? |

Are they on a server with frontpage extensions enabled, if so, just browse to the page, hit the edit with frontpage button and save the content locally. Edit the content as you normally would. Keep it on your HDD and publish via http

Yes, frontpage extensions are enabled.
Doing it the way you suggested (at least, the way I'm reading it) tells me how to save individual pages. What I want to do is copy a whole web at one time. |

Not sure about that. If extensions are enabled and the site has been extended i dont think you can as ftp is disabled and you publish by http (A nasty share point thing). The only thing i can say is save each page separately, then import them into one web. On the bright side, you only have to do it once.
Edit: Just looking at Frontpage. File/Import/Import Web Wizard May work, Give it a try. Last edited by Mac Medic; 03-05-2003 at 07:16 PM. |

Thanks. I took a look at it, OEM Guy, but it was for uplading, not downloading. Uploading and publishing is no prob. It's the downloading everything at one time that I can't find out how to do.

Tried it. It imported the web files into the "temporary internet folder" and did not keep the file structure.
