I loved Altavista until it began displaying those annoying popups.

Now I use Google and will be until it starts displaying those annoying popups.

I couldn't see Google ever using popups. They've been smart enough to outsource search technology as a means of income, so hopefully they'll stay relatively ad-free.

Perhaps the other sites could take a lesson from Google. Their small text ads are the only ads that I've ever clicked on anything and bought something from outside of Crucial ads .

I never really thought about it Xayd, but goggle’s text adds are the only ones that I have ever clicked on and purchased something as well.

Google here too
I never have and probably never will understand how they think if they annoy you enough with pop ups you'll buy something.

I guess I'm the oddball... I just use IE's address bar and normally find what I want.

I use Google first but if it doesn't find what I want, I try Mamma or even Webcrawler. Whatever one I happen to click on in the Favorites menu.

Google.

Interesting point. When Google first went online, they had a different way of finding web sites. It didn't matter if you used META Tags or not.

I was very green to the web and one of the first things I wanted to do was build a web site. I did not really understand META Tags and why they were needed. So I didn't bother putting any on. But Google listed my site, not only did they list it, they listed it as number 2 and it stayed at number 2 until NBCi shut down the free web sites a year or so ago.

The name of the site was, Eaglefeather. Try a search for Eaglefeather and see just how many sites there are with that name. I was quite proud of that number 2 spot. Not one of the other search engines listed it. So Google has been my search engine ever since.

Yep same here. I can type in "air conditoners" in the address bar and it loads google with the search already done, and for some reason it seems faster than doing it the other way. Like redo said it's in your IE auto search settings, just select google or whatever one you like.

For sure! Which OS are you using? Win98SE, all you have to do is click on the search button, then customize, autosearch settings, select google and ok.

I have IE6 and have alot of choices if you have the search icon on your toolbar hit that and you should see where it says customize, then a new window opens with the options.

I found it under the Autosearch settings. This is weird, though: The other day my sister got gasoline spilled on her. I did a search, "remove gas smell," using the default MSN engine, and got a couple thousand sites on the topic.... I just tried that same search in Google, and got only 3 porn sites !???!??
