I won't be a great deal of help, as I have just begun using Frontpage 2002 and have only posted one, rather crude webpage at this point. But I will forward this onto my father-in-law who has used this WYSIWYG proggie for quite some time. He might have your answer.

Tables are extremely helpful for several tasks. Why would you want to get rid of them?

Take a look at some professional sites. Most of them use tables.

Btw, you do mean tables, not frames, right?

Tables are invaluable in frontpage. Stick with them, formatting on screen will work much better.

Unless you want to use CSS to build a site, which Front Page doesn't support very well, you need to stick with using tables.

Tables offer a constraint for content. Without these constraints a browser will try to render the page without really knowing where the content belongs. For text this isnt a problem, but for complicated sites with lots of graphics and text aligned to them, tables offer a guide for the browser to render to. If you are concerned with seeing the table outline just set the width to zero and it'll be hidden.

Highlight the table > right click > table properties > set boarder to "0". If you don't want any spacing (say for sliced images) Set the cell pading and spacing both to zero.

Don't use frontpage for starters, its pants.

I been web programming for years and would rather use notepad than frontpage. My preffered environment is Interdev 6.0, but dreamweaver is ok too.

and yes, stick to tables, very powerful when used right and easy on the server to load too.

If you have been web programming for years, it's a given that you use Notepad, because you know HTML. Editors like Frontpage are fine for people new to website creation to help them get a site up quickly - but there are better similar tools available such as Dreamweaver.

I seem to remember - wasn't the first pure visual editor Netscape Composer - that came with Netscape Gold 3.01?
