I have set up a ramdrive. I have tried to set up the Temporary Internet files for IE to be stored in the ramdrive but without success. I used Tools; Internet Options; under the General tab clicked settings;Move Folder; and then selected Ramdrive. IE then freezes. Any ideas?

I believed you needs more than a miracle to worked on this. Your temporary Internet files is actually are your cookies files. I did not do this on mine but in theory it can be done. How much space your ram drive allocated, if your ram drive space is small, you can't export the Temporary Internet onto it. The second thing, when you turn off your PC, your ram drive is history, so what's ever cookies on your PC will bye bye. What's then, Let's say you want to post in this forum, you will have to manual input the username and password, cause this site will not remember you by. Another thing, you have to make a batch files in dos, every single time, you start the PC it'll copy the Temporary Internet folder to Ram drive and copy it back to hard drive before you turn off. THat's also slow you down when you start and shut down the machine. It's that what you got in mind?

Cookies are in windows\cookies with their own index.dat - they're SHOWN if you browse TIF folder though. Deleting TIF's will NOT delete them.

Thanks for the responses. In "More Windows Speed Tricks" by Jim (reboot) Delong about RAMDRIVE.SYS is the statement "Because it's RAM, it's almost infinitely faster than your hard drive! It does work well for the Windows temp folder, and your browser's cache folder(s)though, and may significantly increase speed while browsing the internet." Pakrat I was wondering how to get my brower's (IE5.5) cache folder onto the ramdrive.

First you must delete the temporary internet files.
You can try using the windows cleanup tool, or do it through tweakui, but the best way is to boot to DOS, and delete the whole folder. At the c: prompt, type deltree c:\windows\tempor~1 and hit enter. Then hit Y when asked. Restart, and THEN setup IE to put the files on the ramdrive. Remember that any NEW cookies you wish saved may NOT be retained on a restart. If anyone knows how windows decides which cookies get retained (and duplicated) in the c:\windows\cookies folder as well as the c:\windows\temporary internet files folder, please let me know. |

See my previous post - cookies are NOT duplicated, just listed if you browse TIF's

I also forgot to mention, let say you finally find a way to create RAM drive and move all fortune cookies there. Now, everytime you download a file, the size of that file depended on your ram drive if that file exceed the ram drive size. You're really busted...... I suggest you get more RAM. With all the game files now exceed 20 or 30Meg. Sometimes my 10 years old want to get a 100Meg, then it a NO GO situation. How about RedHat 7.0 (two CD) almost 1.3G, takes me a couple hours.
