Two internet connections...
...running at the same time?
Can I do this? Well, I know I can because I just did it. I dialed up while using my cable connection which btw was finally installed today. My question is: what can happen if I keep doing it? Advantages? Disadvantages? TIA for your input.

Hi Nuke,
There was something like this posted a long time ago except, if I remember right, it was using two regular dialup modems. Only thing I remember was someone said something about it possibly ticking off your ISP for exceeding your bandwidth if they have limits set on that. Other than that, I don't remember much about it. I also don't know if it would be the same with your cable connection or not.

Oh, I thought you were using the same ISP for both. If it's two different providers I wouldn't see any problems that would come of it. Don't know though, never tried it.

No offense - but what's the point? Dial only when the cable goes down.

I dial to send my mail. I can retrieve my incoming messages from Podernet (my dial-up ISP) using any connection. But in order to send messages I need to be logged on to it. Everytime I try to send a message from another connection I can't.
My concern was that if by using the dial-up connection and the broadband at the same time there would be trouble. Like when you have two AV programs running at the same time or something like dat. |

In your Podernet profile/identity/whatever, just change your SMTP server to the cable ISP's SMTP server. We do this all the time.
