Iexplorer illegal error
Can anyone give me clue as to why I get an Iexplorer illegal operation error when I try to open Control Panel or while using MSN explorer connected via DSL?
Reinstalled Win98SE and downloaded/installed IE6.0 in attempt to fix this but no luck. Please help........ |

From another site:These errors are usually caused by a bug in software, where two applications (or drivers) try to use the same part of your memory. For the most part, these are intermittent errors, and aside from the annoyance, they can be ignored.
If, however, this is happening frequenty, it can be caused by anything, including bad RAM, buggy drivers, and disk errors (run SCANDISK to correct). The best strategy is to try to figure out how to reproduce the problem, and then contact the manufacturer of the offending product. Write the message down, but keep in mind that all of those numbers (memory addresses) are absolutely useless to you; don't bother recording them unless a technician specifically asks you to do so. See Resolving Hardware Conflicts is you have reason to believe it's hardware related, or check out disk and file corruption for yet another direction. So go here and see if the exact error is listed http://www.techadvice.com/issues/how...word2=explorer Also you need to check for spyware and browser helpers that might have corrupted something using AD Aware or Spybot Search and Destroy from www.lavasoftUSA.com and www.lurkhere.com |

Thanks morriswindgate,
None of the error messages match- I have reason to believe that it may be some sort of spyware. I've noticed a popup advertisement occasionally about some sort of security problem that really pisses me off. The machine was working perfect for for almost two years and now all the sudden its f*#@ed-up without any new software added. I'll check out the sites you suggested and go from there. I did have 8 system files corrupted and restored them without any luck resolving the error; must still be there reaping havoc. I'll keep you informed. |

This might be too simple but why dont you uninstall I.E and reinstall it from another source. its usually available from most of those disks given away with magazines. And I dont know about you but I had loads of trouble with I.E 6 and went back to I.E 5 and it runs much better thatn I.E 6. I am running ME and it seems to prefer the older version.
