Anyone else give this thing a try? So far, it's buggier for me than the last beta release. For instance, typing a URL in the address bar and hitting "enter" does absolutely nothing. I can only hit pages from the file/open location/ menu.
Is this just me or is Netscape on crack releasing this unfinished thing to the public? Xayd |

Everyone seems to be on crack
Many companies are doing this. And, to tell the truth, it frightens me. The game "Rainbow Six," the RETAIL PRODUCT no less, required a patch just to work. It was released on time, but was behind schedule. The game "SpecOps" was a horrible slipshod effort of programming. The retail product did not even work. I had to send it back to the pos company to get a new one. It too was released before it was complete. Even Delta Force 3 had a patch in the first hours after the game was released.
Everyone wants to meet the deadline and beat the competition in having the first product. Not a good way to sell a product. I blame the vast availability and ease of the net for this lack of testing. With the network, companies can simply send out a piece of genuine crap and expect you to update it every half an hour. I personally was waiting until the final release of Netscape 6 to get it, but I guess I can wait a little longer. Respectfully, Demosthenes |

Well, I just went through the Netscape6 browser help newsgroup, and apparently others are getting the same results.
They had their one chance to catch up to IE with this browser, but it looks like they blew it big time. The only improvements in the final release are a less buggy install in exchange for a more buggy browser. Back to 4.74 for me. Xayd |

No, no, and absolutely no. Xayd, in no way will I even attempt another NS; I'm just now getting breakfast served in bed again.

Sarge,
You took my advice right? How's that IE 5.5 running?

Lawman, like a champ. You were right about "weaning" them, although these things must be done delicately.

Yep as a big fan of netscape browsers in the past i have to agree Netscape 6 is hopeless. Must be AOhelL's influence, they set themselves up as experts in internet, but hardly anyone has a good word for them. One novel suggestion i have for the Time Warner AOL combine is a thorough re-structure, howabouts AOL trying their hand at Looney toons (they're good at that), and Warner bros having a crack at internet provision. LOL!

I'm really disappointed. I downloaded N6 and installed it on a clean system. Install routine crashed, and the check list box in the custom install dialog is so weak coded that the screen flickers and blinks whenever I scroll down an item, it's awful.
Well. When once installed I tried to set up an existing email account. They did hide the email settings as well as various other settings. Where the heck can it be done? N4.72 had all the settings compact at the same place. In addition, the german translation of the GUI is just painful. Example? "apply theme" has become "apple theme" which isn't german at all, nor does it cover the original sense in any way. ![]() Played around a bit. It's to cry for. BTW the review in a local newspaper said: "It renders fast. But at fastest it is while crashing." - Nothing to add. I think now of finally moving to IE5 which I was too lazy to do so. *sigh* |

NS6 is a monstrous technical joke. It's slower than dead turtles in January; the HTML interpreter is even less robust than it was in the chronically troublesome NS4; it crashes left and right; the JAVA engine runs like it's on Quaaludes -- and refuses to run a number of standard applets; and... the list is a mile long. Even the install blows up all over the place -- I've been hearing about it for a week in our support mail. You know, if they can't even get the download right, you really, really gotta wonder. It is pretty, though. [Edited by etLux on 11-22-2000 at 04:47 AM] |
