Question

Ok, here's the hypothetical deal: I have 2 computers at my house and 1 phone line. 1 computer will have DSL and the other will keep it's crappy 56k modem. Would it be possible for the computer with DSL to be connected to the net and have the other computer ALSO sign-on, with a completely different ISP and such, with the 56k? Any info would be much appreciated!

Yes.

Wouldn't it be better to network the 2 computers together and share the DSL connection though?

Yup...I'm just trying to get all of my options together. Since I only have win98 FE, I cant do ICS. Is there any other ways for me to network 'em together? Thanks!

Best way is a Linksys or Netgear DSL router. You could also use 3rd party software (Sygate, Winroute, etc.).

I would personally use the router. If you use a router, you don't need software. The Linksys comes 2 ways - single or quad port. Get the quad port and you can also use it as your hub. Just plug the DSL "modem" into the router's uplink port and plug your machines into the hub ports. The router does all NAT for you and is also a firewall.

And before you run out and buy a router from your provider, check E-Bay. US West was giving folks Cisco 675's with DSL, and as people move out of the coverage area, the routers hit auction sites. You can pick em up for roughly 75 bucks on E-Bay, whereas they sell new for about 300 or 400.
