if this belongs in the win2000 forum, my mistake.
anyway im running my secondary computer as a server (or id like to). its running windows 2000 server edition and i have apache with PHP installed. my question is how can i now view the files online and so other people can too? for example: i want to put some designs i made and some programming examples online for myself and friends to view from different computers. im behind a linksys router and i think thats gonna give me some problems, can anyone give me advice. |

You need to open up port 80 on the router to the Win2k machine, and that's about it.
The default root folder for apache is the htdocs folder, so with that in mind, if you put picture.jpg in the htdocs folder on your hard drive and forwarded port 80 from the router to your Win2k machine, with the server running... http://123.456.789.000/picture.jpg would be the link for the image, the numbers being your PUBLIC ip address. Note the public, the IP address that the Win2k machine shows will be a private IP, you need to give them the IP that your router has which comes from your ISP. |

thanks for the info, i got it working now. my next question is that i want to redirect to my IP (i dont want everyone knowing it off the bat). i know about www.no-ip.com, but when i enter the actual IP my ISP provided me with, it does nothing. when i try using the IP my router is ussing (also the IP that i can type in IE to view my pages) i get this message:
"^ The IP address you entered is invalid. Please enter a non-private IP network address" Is there a work around to this? |
