email problem
I'm trying to help a friend who gets this error message on some, not all emails (as he did send it to me thru email):
530 5.7.3 Due to a recent security enhancement, changes to your email client configuration are required. Please go to http://supportservices.msn.com/us/smtptool/default.asp for complete information about the steps to make these quick changes. You will be unable to send email from your MSN account until those changes are made. The link doesn't work, and I've tried all combos of wording and searching the support.msn.com site you get redirected to. No luck. He is using both Outlook Express and IncrediMail. The problem is in IncrediMail, but I can't move the emails from it to Outlook Express to see if the problem exists there, too. I remember running into that error message before on a different machine, but all I did was go to the link, followed instructions, and it worked.... Any / all help is appreciated! Thanks, TwoRails PS: It's a Win 98.2 box running all current Windows Updates patches / fixes, including IE 6 SP1. The IncrediMail version is also the latest, 934. |

I used to have MSN and what that is telling you is that their server is requiring authentication.
In OE go to TOOLS>ACCOUNTS>MAIL>PROPERTIES>SERVERS In the Outoing Mail section check the box that says my server requires authentication. Click the settings button that lights up and then put the dot in LOGON USING. The account name will be the entire email address and the password. |

Hi azscary,
OE is working fine and has no problem with either incoming or out going emails. He much prefers IncrediMail, and the problem happens only when using IncrediMail, and only with some out going emails. I was over there earlier (he is local, and it's one of my builds...) and can't see anything strange in the Outbox in IncrediMail, meaning some have attachments, some are pure text. Some get sent out, others don't. The tip you mention is done, the entire eddress and password are in. Still no luck. ![]() TwoRails PS: Good shot on it being MSN!! It is! You DO realize that Incredimail mines addresses from email sent using it for spam purposes? I've asked all my customers that use Incredimail to not send ME any e-mail with it, and if they insist, I ask them to send it to my junk Yahoo account which I check once a week.

No, glc, I didn't. Fortunately, I have not noticed any abnormal or any noticable increase in spam in the approx 8 - 9 months he's been sending me email. Thanks for the tip, and maybe explains why he gets a lot of virus' (which are quarantined).
Any ideas on how to fix his problem, though? .... TwoRails |
