Temporary disable IE
I have a minor issue that I was hoping to see addressed. I have some Compaq Evos 300 with OEM 98SE as OS. I am trying to keep some young people on task and have installed HandsOff to protect system properties. I have also configured the default user profile to not give an IE icon on the desktop. I do not want to permanently disable Internet access, as they need to surf sometimes.
Problem is this - when the PC's boot, although the default user profile dictates how it should load, IE icon loads on desktop. All other rules hold true. One has to access the HandsOFF level controller and click default to make it disappear. I have removed IE from the taskbar and start menu and have looked around in Windows and Microsoft.com for some info, but apparently disabling surfing is not a common problem. Is there a quick fix or do I need to edit the registry? |

I don't know about the Handsoff program, but you can take Internet explorer off the desktop by going into Control panel, internet options, advanced tab and unchecking Show internet explorer on the desktop. HTH
