A while back I made a post about IE 6 running under XP SP1 having trouble displaying .gif images. Basically, I had tried everything short of a reinstall of Windows. Today I was checking the MS news server and I came across this solution:
First, check for a file named "hosts" on your hard drive. Rename it. If no joy, check for these two registry keys, and delete them. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\ftp] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\http] Once I deleted the keys (I'd already tried renaming the hosts file) and rebooted everything was fine. I went to some sites that use small .gif images and sure enough everything displays like it's supposed to. I hope someone finds this info useful. I know I sure did. |

I'm sure it will come in handy sometime in the future. If it happened to you, it will happen to someone else sooner or later.
