Ive got a really irritating problem that has cropped up after going to get a crack for one of my old programs of this site (trinsic.org ring any bells anyone?). After going there i now get this annoying window popping up that says
"Message from JanitaGirl19w to (my ip address) on (whatever date/time) Hello, Im looking for a Boy in UK! My Picture is on my Homepage: http://www.janita.us see u later Your Janita!" this happens randomly whenever im on the internet and occasionally i get a different message telling me to go to byebyeads.com to stop getting messages as it is "spam" and "viruses" all i have to do is pay $25 to this company to stop it - this is clearly a scam and im wondering if anyone knows how to stop this, ive had a look in my downloaded inet programs and there was a small program there linked to this so ive removed that but the messages still come so all help is welcome here. (I kno i can just reformat my HD but i really dont want to now as i have heaps of courswork to type up and dont nmeed the hassle) |

Have you tried a program like Spybot, Search and Destroy. It is designed to pick up and remove this kind of crap.
The program is Freeware and can be picked up at CNET or direct from the authors webpage, http://security.kolla.de/ I use it at the end of every interent session to keep the spys and other spammers out of my PC. Works great, has an easy to use user interface and free updates.

I looked at the file attachement and you definitley are seeing messenger notices (this is NOT the MSN Messenger chat program), this is a tool for IT to tell people on the network about system outages etc. I am going to assume that you are NOT in business envronment with this machine so here is how to remove the service from your machine (cut from another link here on pcmech).
Instead of disabling the service, or stopping the service, why not uninstall Messenger completely? It won't affect MSN Messenger at all. Browse to c:\windows\inf and open sysoc.inf in notepad. Look for the line: msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7 Edit it to take out the word "hide", so it looks like this: msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7 Save it. Open Add/Remove programs in control panel, Windows componenets, and Messenger will now be there, and uninstall it. |

sdkfz, that will uninstall MSN Messenger and not Messeger Services. Please see Glc and Reboots corrections in that very same thread.
wickedmonkey, just disable the Messeger Service is all you need to do. |

Lil's solution is what will prevent it. As far as reporting it, don't bother. Stuff like that is like a drug dealer; you take one away and twenty more are trying to take it's place.
