Running a BBS?

Yesterday, while surfing the intenet I came across Synchronet BBS website that someone brought back to life and it brought back old memories when I use to run a bbs. Anyways, I was wondering if someone could do me a favor?

Could someone either telnet to telnet://p4s8x or goto to my website ( http://www.pepster.com) and click on my picture, I am curious if I have it setup (working) correctly.

It would be very much appreciated.

John

You'll have to register a domain if you want to have people connect by a name, it can't work without DNS.

Otherwise they'll need a public IP address to connect to.

Well, I have pepster.com registered and I was just using p4s8x as a name for the bbs? Hmm? I did try it out on one of my other computers and it work, but I figured it worked only because it was on a LAN - not because I had it all connected to the internet.
Does anyone know how to correct this problem?

You should be under a pepster.com domain then. Probably user.pepster.com or something.

I looked up your site's IP address and tried to telnet in, didn't work. If the site is hosted on your LAN with something like a dynamic DNS service, you have to forward port 23 in your router to the machine that will accept connections, then people can telnet to pepster.com and get in. If pepster.com is hosted elsewhere, this won't work, people will have to telnet to your WAN IP address.

Thanks GLC for the info, I'll get to play around a little more tomorrow night when I go in to work.
