Unbelievably slow
I'm having a problem with IE6, I'm not sure what it is, but here are the "symptoms":
Pages are kind of fast enough to load because I have a good internet connection, but when they have loaded, if I want to click on a link, it takes ages to actually go to the next page, or when I'm typing (for example posting a message on here) it takes ages for the text to appear, there is like a 20 second delay between everything I do. When I scroll down it takes about 20 seconds after I have pushed down for it to actually go down. It's just on the internet, the rest of the computer is okay, can anyone recommend something for me to do or whats causing the problem? thanks in advance. Tara! PS - It's so slow, I had to wait 2 minutes after I had finished typing this post for it to actually finish on the computer (if this is making any sense, lol) |

Try this 1st .
Start > Find > Files or folders , type into the top space > Hosts (no extension, just Hosts) & press Enter . Right click & rename Hosts.txt If the above dos'nt help , give it a good clean out & speed up your Internet browsing . http://shellcity.net/cgi-bin/DB_Sear...=yes&alpha=0-9 http://www.1cleanup.com/ 1CLEANUP.......... You can protect your comp from Spyfiles by using these 3 programs together . http://beam.to/spybotsd What does SpyBot-Search & Destroy? http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareguard.html SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method. Not networking , this will help . 1) Tools -> Internet Options 2) Connections tab 3) LAN Settings 4) Uncheck "Automatically Detect Settings" |

I'm at a different computer now, Yesterday I checked the computer for spyware, there was 44 (I know thats bad) items and I removed them all. I'll try what ye said when I go home.
When I'm on the internet I don't have any other programs running, I think it could be a general problem with my computer now though, coz it's starting to act up aswell. Thanks for your help

If you don't use an Anti-Virus program while browsing the net, then you should get one - either Norton Anti-Virus or the free AVG .
http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_faq.php# what Anti-Virus are you running? Do a full scan for Virii. If you don't have an Anti-Virus installed at the momment, then try the online Housecall http://housecall.antivirus.com/ What Windows version are you running? If Win98 or Me, have you just upgraded to IE 6 recently? |

if you are running Win2K or XP, one of the recent updates can cause problems like this - Q811493. The workaround is either uninstall it or disable your antivirus's autoscan files when opened.

I got Q811493, until I realized I don't need it being behind a router. Huge difference in browsing speed.

Tried everything, scanned for viruses, there was a few infected files, after I had tried everything, it was still very slow, so I just downloaded Opera 7.10, I found this much better and it's solved the problem.
