I have my 2 computers networked and one will not work. I tried the info from the routers tech advice and nothing worked. We did a command line ping to see if computer would talk to router and that worked. The tech said I need to try a repair to Internet Explorer. We are using cable modem and I tried to reset both Modem and router but nothing worked. Does anyone know of a repair I can do or a simple file that may be missing? I am not getting any error codes!
This is running win98 and a belkin router and network card. My kid said it just quit, Really don't believe that one but never know. Thanks,. Strowhat (Chuck)

What exactly is your problem? Is the one PC not able to connect to the net?

What version of IE are you running?
Have you tried the repair of IE yet? Are you running a software firewall?

I am not able to connect with the one computer only! The other is working fine. I checked settings with a Belkin Tech, no problems like I said I could ping to the router
I have AOL but use Wideopenwest cable to connect, on this computer the AOL says unable to connect isp lan not found. On IE it comes up unable to find page! I do not know how to repair IE that is one Question I am asking for your help with if it is at all possible. The last time my daughter did this I had a windows boot problem and had to reformat and load win98 again. This time everything else is working fine. Also checked devise manager and all seems to be working great! Thanks, Chuck (Strowhat) |

WIN98
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information. IE repair is under Tools Tab. Chas Has the networked before? Many people report problems getting a network to work using AOL.

Open Control Panel - Networks. Count how many times TCP/IP is listed - Win98 has a maximum of 5 instances allowed, and make sure one of them points to your Ethernet adapter. AOL sticks several instances in there for all its crazy adapters, you may have to uninstall Dialup Networking to free a slot up.

I'll look at the info tonite or in the am.
I have been using Aol for this and the problem computer with no problems until my daughter messes with things when I told her not to! 16 years old and thinks she knows the world better than dad as always! I have looked at the TCP/IP but when I did I had no idea how many were allowed and I looked to see if they matched with my working computer and they did. Thanks for all the help And I will post the results after I see what is what! Thanks, Chuck |

The other way to repair IE Explorer is to go to the Add/Remove programs, double click on IE Explorer and select Repair IE Explorer.

Well I tried the IE repair and then even removed it totally to reinstall. Nothing so I tried removing to reinstall the Belkin software and nothing helped since the thing locks up at a certain spot and then I need to reset the computer to get it going again.
I'll have to resort to a full win98 restore and see what happens if I am not able to get it going by Friday! Appreciate all the help so far! I keep learning new things and that's what it is all about! Thanks, Chuck |
