Internet DNS server problem
I`m totally stumped with this one.
Trying to resolve a connectivity problem for a friend. On his W98 SE machine I am able to connect to the server but IE will not browse, I`ve tried other browsers even, Mozilla Phoenix, Off by One, same thing. When I run winipcfg, it lists the primary and secondary servers and I am able to get a ping response. I installed another modem and still the same thing. I created another dial up adapter on my machine connecting to his ISP and it works fine, in fact I`m connected to it now typing this post. I even pinged several websites from this machine then connected with his machine and typed the ip address instead of the url and it wouldn`t access the website. (typed in 64.58.76.222 which should connect me to www.yahoo.com, works on mine but not his) I entered the Primary and secondary DNS servers manually in TCP\IP settings on his and no go. Thinking it may be a file corruption, I installed Windows over top of itself, still no success. I tried connecting to my isp on his machine but it won`t allow me to, modem disconnects. I haven`t contacted their tech support yet (they`re usually clueless) and think that a total re-install may be needed. The original modem is a Lucent Winmodem. I didn`t uninstall it but simply added my spare one. Could the Lucent modem be the problem? Any ideas are most welcome. Thanks. |
