Angry Fire Pop-up Hell

I am using AOL 8, which has, at last, a great pop up blocker. However, I'm still getting those damn annoying grey boxes, telling me that my pc is open to hackers and pop ups.

Anybody know how to get rid of them for good? I'm using XP Pro.

Go to Start > Run > and type in: services.msc
Find "Messenger", and stop the service, and set it to "Manual" instead of automatic, or you can set it to "Disabled" if you don't use it at all.

p.s. Welcome to PCMech!

Hey you guys, how do you get those excellent mascotts under your names? I feel I should be waving the Union Jack around a bit! lol

When you reach 1024 posts, you get a custom avatar.
For now, just keep posting questions and aswers, and you'll be there before you know it.
Welcome all to PCMech!

Nice one, but why 1024 posts? I mean, why not 1023 or 1025? That's a question I bet even Douglas Adams couldn't answer!

It has to do with the "1-bit," "2-bit" nomenclature that is used here. 2^10 is 1024, so that's where the name comes from.

Reboot, I've just been linked to this thread, problem solved! THANKS!

As for AOL, easy first stop for new internet users and still popular in the United Kingdom so yes, go easy on them please!

This is not an AOL bash, but a single word that descibes the company - "McAOL"
