Sounds like the service is either not starting or/& is missing. You can try the simpliest thing by removing and the re-adding the app.

Have you tried configuring it without the proxy server checked on. Sometimes with transparent proxies MSN messenger doesnt require you to put in a proxy setting.
If it doesnt work, try contacting your admin to see if port 1863 is open for TCP; last I heard that was what MSN used.

no... i tried without proxy and same thing.
I guess its most likely to do with the network restirctions... so let me get this right .. if a certain port is blocked by nekwork ppls then theres no way on earth i can use MSN ?

Wait a minute; I thought you said the MSN service could not be found. In that case wouldn't it be a problem with the app and not it's configuration?

MSN Messenger service gives the aforementioned error message when it cannot open the valid port (connection to what it believes is the messaging service on the internet).

I can see that if you have the app open and trying to connect. I got the impression he wasn't even getting the app to load.

I have the same problem at work. I can log into Yahoo chat but not MSN chat. We used to be able to but they have blocked the MSN chat program now.

Cheers!

I have seen that daisi and I figured out a way around it. You can do a port search and try to find a open one. If that doesn't work then try to find out if they have another proxy server. We got around that by using the proxy server in Miami.

Let's not discuss bypassing security here - the only thing we can say is talk to your network admin. Please refer to our site FAQ.

If you are on a windows domain with roaming profiles, MSN will have to be enabled on your user account. So you'll have to talk to the Admin.
