I install lots of applications and some come with AOL links-like get free aol. I am not living in US- and I do not like AOL popping on my desktop. How do I stop aol from ever getting installed. Sometimes there are no options in the software I install- they get installed automaticly. Frustrated. Not only that-I get AOL cd's-around 5 cd's during my 5 month visit to NM. AOL has very aggresive campaign.
Registry hack?

I know what ya mean. I load the stuff up and then got thru and manually delete the free AOL crap. In favories just got thru it in organize your favorites. On the start menu, desktop etc I just right click that crap into the recycle bin. I check after I downoad something and repeat as needed

The main thing is to use or atleast check the custom install menu on anything you install. In the custom install list it will list stuff like AOL and Ebay. If it isn't listed then you can always back up and do the normal install.
As fgar as the AOL and other online service links that came with the older operating systems(And will probably return now that MS and AOL have settled) Just remove the shortcut and folders. However there will be a registry entry that will regenerate itself if you remove it. But to my knowledge it doesn't do anything. |

You'll never really avoid it permanently unless you clean it out and never D/L anything again, like Morris said if you can use custom install and be aware it can be avoided.
