Question

Somehow I lost the ability to access the help functionality in Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. When I go to "contents & index" under the "help" menu, I get nothing. When I press F1 I get nothing. All I see is the hourglass cursor for a second, and then it goes away. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this functionality back?

Try the Repair Option. In your Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Internet Explorer>Add/remove>Repair.

Question

RayH, I did what you suggested, but it did not fix the problem. I've also noticed that the help information is not accessable from Windows Explorer either.

I've done some sleuthing and found the following. In the folder C:\Windows\helpdesk\HELP are the folders iexplore.chm and oe_msgr.chm. When I click on them from Windows Explorer, they are found to be the help information for IE and Outlook Express that I have been looking for. Could there be some setting that is causing my computer to look in the wrong location for the help information? Most of the information does seem to reside in that folder. If so, how do I redirect my computer to look in the correct location?

Wow... weird one, Marc. If I'm not mistaken, I think the registry itself would have to skip a beat to mislocate the help files. Possibly a re-install on IE would be the best shot... though, frankly, the help files for either IE or OE aren't, uh, all that helpful... lol.
