Ah yes, I just recently installed apache because of my PHP/mySQL code I like to run now and again without ftp'ing to a webhost, saves time, money, and it's actually a great way to learn about webhosting.

Installing apache isn't always as straightforward as installing a program then using it, there are .ini's to edit and... it's horrible.

I personally run IIS 5.1 off XP Pro, and really like it. I'm also running Coldfusion 6.0 server on top of that. IIS is so easy to use, but you need something more robust( I can only support 10 simultaneous connections) if you want multiple sites (webhosting, etc.). I just like to run our family website off our home computer.

This all seems very confusing to me.... can some1 explain this for a begineer.... I have a router and dsl connection and i want to be able to host my own web site and also my own email like webmaster@myurl.com .... PLease Help... Thank You

The first thing you want to do is check your DSL provider's acceptable use policy and see if running servers is even permitted. It's usually best just to register a domain name and use an external host, there are tons of good ones out there for well under $10 a month. There are a lot of security issues with hosting in-house, I'd rather pay the pros to handle those issues.

It is aloud by my isp... i dont have a domain name yet and i have dynamic dsl... can someone help me and tell me what i can do..... Is there anything that i can do until i get a domain?? THank you...
