Exclamation major connection problems!

i have att worldnet for my internet and it has worked fairly well up till today, when i got cox as my new phone service. cox is a companie in newengland, not sure how far it stretches. they are a cable company, but also have cable internet and phone service. ive switched my local and longdistance before and havent had a problem. but now i can bairly even connect to the internet. i have to start yahoo messenger to have something that will "force" my connection open. im getting the same slow spead at connect which is 34.6k i have a 56k modem. normal speads where about 40-44k. im not sure whats going on. at first connect, if it connects-been gettin alot of errors on that too- i have upload speed but no download. the only thing i can do is hit connect and wait for it to be connected. get the 34.6k connection. open yahoo messenger. connect. wait about 5-10 minutes, no lie. and then if it connects, it seems to break through a clog in the wire like internet drano or something, and i can open my web browser and it will finaly connect to my home page. also when i check my "status" for my connection there is a spot where it says -errors- and there is a 1 next to it, which i never had. i can only look at the log when im disconnected so i havent checked it out for fear that i wont be able to get back on. im going to contact cox and see if it has something to do with then, but i figured i ask my trusty techies first, figuring,as always, you'll know more than the people that work at the places i have to talk to. TIA

I have a customer that was connecting at a solid 50.6 until he switched his local phone service - and now gets 37.3 tops and it's doggy as all getout. Sorry to be blunt, but you screwed yourself switching phone companies. Your best bet is go ahead and take the cable Internet, see what kind of package deal you can get.
