Connection timeout
I'm getting a very strange problem with one of our machines.
Basically we have a local web server here that serves development websites by IP address e.g. http://192.168.13.247. We can access the development sites fine on all computers except one. This one hangs for ages before it says it cannot connect to the remote host (connection timeout). I've tried all the obvious stuff like pinging the IP which returns very quickly. I'm at a loss why this doesn't work in Internet Explorer. There are no problems with any other domain based websites. Has anyone got any ideas? DJ |

If you can ping it, then it could be an issue with group policies, computer policies, user accounts, permissions on your IIS, etc. Any number of these things.

Ok the problem has escalated. How you cannot access any websites from IE and MSN Messenger also refuses to sign in. Netscape works fine however. Virus definitions are up to date and Norton has not detected anything - although now it can't connect to download new updates. I'm downloading spybot to see if there is any spyware. Anyone got any other suggestions?

What does this computer have or not have that is different than the others? Are your permissions set the exact same on each computer? If you can ping it but can't connect, sounds like the server is not acknowledging the computer for some reason...

OK its sorted. The user had setup a proxy server when one wasn't needed or even existed. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
