Outlook Express for Win95

I'm getting a VERY old laptop PC with limited capabilities to work for my sister-in-law (who only needs limited capabilities). She basically only needs it for retrieving and sending e-mail. I want to install Outlook Express on it. Where can I get a version of Outlook Express to install on it? The version must be compatible with her Win95 operating system. The PC only has a floppy drive (no CD-ROM Drive). I have no working software to connect to the internet so I don't believe I can download it.

How will she be checking and sending email if she can't connect to the internet?

What ISP will she be using? Who does she have email through? If it's web-based, she doesn't need a mail client. She only needs IE.

And it's not that old if it can handle Win95... I worked with 64 Megs of RAM until very recently, and there are many still out there who work with less.

But if you must have Outlook Express, I would say first: try to connect and download it. (Doesn't Win95 come with OE?) If you must have the program before the ISP, you can try going to Microsoft's website to see if they have it available for Win95 on floppy... For some reason, as I'm writing this, I believe Windows comes with Outlook Express (not Outlook, but Outlook Express) automatically. You should be able to set it up from a nice install of Windows 95.

No, only the very latest version of 95 (the "C" version) came with OE, it was bundled with IE4. I don't think you can download OE separately from IE.

Download the non-Java version of Opera (www.opera.com), you can use Winzip to "span" zip it to a set of floppies, you will only need 2 or 3 to hold the whole thing, it's only around 3 megs. This will give her a modern browser and a very decent email program which will run acceptably on a 486. IE6 is not compatible with Win95, so this makes Opera look even better from a "modern" standpoint. Sure, you can download a full version of IE5 with OE5 (instead of the active install stub) but it's well over 50 megs.

Go here and get whatever full version of Intenet Explorer you want. Internet Explorer 4.01 had a lot of the upgrade "OS" features of Windows 95, such as the right mouse click.

Ray: No internet connection, no CD. That's why I suggested what I did, all those IE's on that site are huge files. All the laptop will need to unzip those spanned floppies is Winzip, version 7 will fit on a single floppy.
