Smile Webpage Shortcuts

Appreciate some assistance.

On a friend's PC, there are several shortcuts on the Desktop to webpages where he likes to obtain sports related info.

However, when he 2x clicks on any of these shortcuts, the PC makes no attempt to connect to the Internet.

How can he get these shortcuts to trigger the Dial-up connection prompt, start Internet Explorer, and take him to the pages for which he has the shortcuts on the Desktop?

IE Version=6.0
OS=XP Home

Thanks for the help.

Open up IE > tools > internet options > "connections" tab > select either "Dial whenever..." or "Always dial". I can't remember which. I'm pretty sure it's "dial whenever..."

Give him a shortcut to his dialup connection on the desktop and/or quicklaunch. I don't like autoconnect because it can dial out of the clear blue sky if anything on the machine decides it wants to phone home.

You can have it set to "Always Dial" but not have it automatically dial. That is how I had mine set. That way it brings up the dialogue whenever it needs a connection, but it cannot dial behind your back. Best of both worlds.

Thanks for the replies.

Believe he already has IE set to: Always dial default connection.

Do know that he has Compu-Type as the ISP.

Will check out again. Every computer I use goes to whatever website when a webpage desktop icon is 2x clicked...except his!! Go figure!!

Yeah it should be checked with the 'make my default connection" or something like that.
