Website Woes

I made a site for my father's buisness it's ok due to my lack of HTML experience but that aside I'm now trying to get his website on searchengines so people can find it. This seems much harder than it should be.

One thing I should mention is that he had an old site hosted by tripod. That site does show up. I'm wondering if that site might be interefering with my efforts to get this new site on these search engines.

I need some feedback here because I very much need my father website up and running quickly.

I'm assumeing that I would want the script on my index page? With Tripod how would I go about doing that?? How would I edit the index page on tripod (i've never worked with it b4) and then resubmit it??

Hello:

Reboot, I would like to thankyou for leading me in the right direction. I finnally found a meta that works great for now, I think that might be better because javascripts can be turned off.

However, that still leaves me with one very, very important question that still needs some help/answer.

How do I go about getting my fathers new site to show up on a search engine. Do I just keep posting the url repeatedly and pray that it one day it comes up? Also I was wondering if anyone had some ideas of how to drive more people to the site? Free url redirection?? I'm just looking for a no cost way to better market my father's site.
