IE Uninstall
I keep getting a message telling me that IE has encountered a problem and will now shut down. I want to uninstall it completely and reinstall to see if that might solve the problem. However, when I go to Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs, IE is not listed among the other programs. How do I uninstall IE then?

If you have Xp, it's very trcky if not practically impossible to uninstall Internet Explorer.
If you're running any other windows program, assuming you are, then you should go into the internet explorer folder and use the unistaller. |

I'm screwed by MS
A check of the MS knowledge base site verified that my IE5.5 problem is a KNOWN problem with Windows ME that came installed on my PC. Furthermore, the MS knowledge base states that IE5.5 CANNOT BE UNINSTALLED from Windows ME!!!!!!!!
I am thinking about downloading and using Mozilla. Any other advice on a workaround is appreciated. |

Actually, there is a beta version of a program called 2000-XPlite that will remove Internet Explorer as well as many other items in Win2000 and XP so you could really trim it down. Maybe if you search for it you might find it or maybe someone can send you a copy or maybe the company might even send you a copy as they want feedback.
The company is well known for removing IE from Windows98 with their program called IEradicator. |

If you read the last post, it's IE 5.5 on Windows ME.
Mozilla is an excellent option, other options are Opera and IE6. |

Firebird
I have been trying out Firebird in place of my IE5.5, and it's been pretty stable. I understand only IE enables me to download automatic Windows updates from MS. I plan to used IE periodically in order to "catch" these update notifications and then download them. Other strategies appreciated.

Best strategy is install IE6 to take care of this need. Too bad 5.5 doesn't work right, its pretty decent as IE goes. I'm using Win2K and am still on 5.01 strictly for Windows Update and other sites that absolutely *require* IE (reporting Opera as IE doesn't work).
