Pop-Up/Firewall Question
I used to get alot of popups that would appear at random times in grey notification boxes advertising various things. They were extrememley annoyng and disruptive to the machine. The reason I got these was that I had released myself from our family/business firewall. I did this by going to the website of our IP address and releasing the computer. I did it so I could use FTP software and play online games. I then got fed up with the pop ups and put myself back witihin the firewall. The pop ups have stopped, but my gaming has been affected, and I have a hard time connecting to servers. Is there a way for me to block the Pop-Ups, yet remain outside the firewall?

Hi amk1369,
To get rid of only those pop-ups, disable the windows messenger service as described here. If you want more protection (which I would recommend), download a software firewall like Zone Alarm. You could also leave yourself on the hardware firewall and open the gaming ports you need if you have access to it. Hope this helps. |
