Is my problem the phone line?

I have a PC setup at my wifes work running Windows 98 and I.E. 6.0, they are saying that when they get on the internet, Internet explorer keeps giving a "page not available" message when trying to hit different web sites. Sometimes it doesn't happen right away, other times it does. In which case they disoconnect from the ISP, then re-connect and can then go ok for a short while before it starts to happen again. They also have a laptop, when they plug the laptop into the same phone line they say they have no problems with it.

Now, I have taken this pc back home and plugged it into my phone line and have had no problems whatsoever, I also popped another modem in the PC and installed the latest driver for it, sent it back and they are still having the problem.

Could the problem be there phone line, even though the laptop seems to work ok?

Well, no if truly the laptop has no trouble, then sounds like telco line is good, but if the PC works great elswhere then sounds like all is well there, so something does not add up, but what i have found ovre the years is U have to really troubleshoot things for yourself. I've went in trusting what the customer says and come to find out they aren't really correct in what they are telling me...What is the ISP?? And could it have something to do with the number being dialed into from the different locations???

My thoughts exactly...something is not adding up. I did get to test the pc out at her work and did see the problem with the pages not coming up happening. I did not get to use the laptop however. I am dialing into the same number in all situations to a local ISP. I have the pc back home now, I am going to have my wife dial in and see if she runs into the problem.
