mIRC

I've been trying lately to connect to IRC and for some reason it won't let me. I'm not behind a firewall and nothing should be impeding the connection.

what is the exact software you're using to connect ? is it only on certain servers or on every server you connect to?

i dont really know but it seems to me that irc has had general connection problems lately, although that's just a personal "feeling".

do you have any sort of problems with other types of connections?

i've read on several sites that dalnet has had 'denial of service attacs' for months, i believe it started somewhere last year.

i ve tried connecting to dalnet servers trough mozilla (chatzilla) and most dalnet was down indeed (i tried last a few days ago)
i normally can connect to efnet servers, only some can get really crowded it seems.

maybe its something with your software settings . what software do you use and how do you connect to internet ?

i use mirc6.03 myself

ive just been trying to connect to some dalnet and efnet servers and its hard to get a connection, but after a little wait i am connected to a seattle server
(and im in belgium). it does state that server traffic is very heavy. maybe that's the problem.

Have you tried connecting to totally different servers?

when the problem first came up, was it after you changed something? or did it like 'just started to happed' .

Both Dalnet and Efnet can be difficult to get connected to. Dalnet because they have been under attack so their servers come and go. Efnet because, I guess as grasshopperbe said, it's a huge chat net with a lot of traffic and sometimes gets overloaded.

Try connecting to Starchat, it should be on the list of servers that comes with mIRC. If you can connect to it, then the problems you're having are with Dalnet and Efnet.

I can usually connect to Dalnet using the "kernel.ga.us.dal.net" (without the quotes) address. To try it, open mIRC and type (or paste) in
/server kernel.ga.us.dal.net
then press the enter key.
