file storage

I have a few BIG video files of recordings i made at the racetrack on my bike, they are up to 50 Mb each but can be made around 15 Mb if i compress them some more. I would like my friends to be able to download them from the web, but my ISP only allows me for 15 Mb max storage. Is there a way to do this cheaply, i don't really want to have to buy expensive web hosting, are there any good free servers like they do for email? thanks.

There are online storage services available, but you are going to have to pay eventually. Just Google "online storage" for some ideas.

You could set up a temporary FTP or web daemon on your system and have them download it from your computer, that is if you have a fast enough connection to the internet.

NB-1: make sure you take a note to see, that you will not be abusing your ISP's bandwidth too much; some ISP's don't allow such tools, check your ISP's ToS and related documentation.
NB-2: make sure that you use it only when needed and shut it down when not needed. It could also be a security hole that you are openning up.

Sorry about the warnings, but heeding both the issues could save you a great deal of trouble. If you deal with the risks as such - you could check out FTP servers at: http://www.tucows.com/ftpserver95_default.html
or WWW servers at: http://www.tucows.com/httpserver95_default.html
I'd like to recommend: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network.htm (SimpleServer) as a great start-up web server to share files.

Again, if this is a one time thing or a rare thing, then its easy enough; but if you are going to do it regularly, you'd probably have better luck going thr route doctorgonzo suggested.

thanks a bunch. I just bought 500mb of storage with 10gb monthly bandwidth for $5.99, seemed like a good deal.
