uploading......a router thing?!!!!

Hi,

Yesterday i tried to upload some pics to my web space after a long gap not using it....
when connecting using cute_ftp it kept on saying 'getting welcome message from server' and didn't go further and didnt manage to connect.

when using windows own 'web publishing wizard', it comes up saying unable to connect to ftp server'.

I recently bought a cable router, can this be blocking something?
anything my doing wrong here?

Thanks for ur help.

note;
I have FTP port 20/21 forwarded. My web space hasn't expired either. Win98SE.

1 quick way to see if its the router is to bypass the router and go straight in to your PC like U used to and try it again.. What make and model of router?? I may be off here but I don't think you necessarily want to forward those ports, but just make sure thay are not blocked, or inother words make sure those ports are open in the router...

ok thanks.... i ll try that.

Router is the Netgear MR814v2.

And whn u say 'not block, and are open' is that not the same thing as forwarding a port? (i'm new to this router business).

If not then where can i see that these ports aren't blocked and are open?

Many thanks.

On my Linksys router port blocking is under the filters tab and there is a seperate tab for port forwarding. By default no ports are blocked or forwarded on mine, and probably the same with yours. If U do find the router is the problem then I would undo that forwarding thing and see if that helps. I'm not really an expert either on this ports thing but I think forwarding is for something else and if U just leave your port settings alone at default it should work...

In your FTP client, enable passive (PASV) mode.
