When I visit certain web pages and click on say "track a shipment" at Airborne Express, it appears that the Java needed for the next page is not working on my system. Even from the Microsoft homepage, I click on windows updates, and get a blank screen. At expedia, after I input my trip dates and hit "Search for rates" I get a blank screen instead of the search screen and I get no results. Somethings up.
How do I re-install JAva? If that is the problem. All othe input welcome! Thanks adrianse |

Is this a new problem or old?
I assume you are using IE? Have you changed your security settings recently? |

This is a new problem. I have not changed my security settings. In the past I have downloaded sun java but I will download it again, maybe this one will cure the problem.
Thanks adrianse |

Update, I already have the version you reffered me to of Sun JAva installed, I will reinstall it though. I went to search for the sun java install file so I would not have to download it. I click on the search button off the windows start menu and I get the little dog and the superimposed blue search screen, but no text in the box, in other words all I have is a dog on a blue rectangle.
Another weird thing.... |

If you are using IE, the problems are more than likely related. The IE interface is used heavily to display things like help and find.
Turn the security settings to Off or Low for a moment and see if the stuff still happens. I would not doubt it, but it would be funny if the WindowsUpdate page used Java, but they might do it just to spite Sun. |

Ok, re-instaling Java Sun did nothing, setting the security settings to low did nothing, I noticed as I was poking around that the HTTP 1.1 boxes are unchecked, don't these need to be checked? Thanks for all the help so far!

HTTP 1.1 should be, you don't need to check the other unless you go through a proxy.
Also, you may want to look at JIT compiler while you're in there, this sometimes happens to me if I have it checked and Sun Java at the same time.

Hmmmm, still no results! What gives. Ok here is one other thing, I unistalled Norton Antivirus and installed Mcafee in it's place. Maybe it's Mcafee related?

This happened to me this winter after updating my Windows. I, too, went to the Java site & (needlessly) downloaded the Sun console, etc.... The problem happened all of a sudden, without even rebooting!! Had just been playing a game online (pool), which I played 24/7, came back half hour later & suddenly didn't have the Java!!
My problem turned out to be the Natas virus which had insiduously corrupted registry files. Had to uninstall & reinstall Windows & updated Virus definitions. DON'T use floppies which might be infected! Hope you get better soon! ps: Stick with Norton Antivirus! Last edited by dawn1129; 08-06-2003 at 02:29 AM. |

I do not know what my problem really was, what you say makes sense. I too re-installed XP and now everything is fine.
Thanks |
