Through pinging a site, one can know its IP address. That is if the URL is equal to sth like this: "www.mydomain.com", for example.
- What if the domain name that I seek is sth like: "www.hostname.com/mydomain"??? I've been told that it won't differ, since "www.hostname.com/mydomain" is hosted on "www.hostname.com" and will have the same IP address. So All I have to do is to ping only the hostname. To be more specific, in my case, the host name is geocities, and when pinging it, the result is: 66.218.77.68. I've reserved a domain under geocities, and I intend to upload my whole work (that is a website) by using "Cute FTP" instead of using Geocities facility by uploading the site FILE by FILE (which I hate!) Now when using that IP address (66.218.77.68), in the "FTP Host Address" and attempting to establish a connection, I have trouble getting there: STATUS Connecting to 66.218.77.68 STATUS Connecting to 66.218.77.68 (ip = 66.218.77.68) STATUS Socket connected. Waiting for welcome message... ERROR Timeout ERROR Can't login. Still trying... STATUS Disconnect: Friday 23:13:48 08-08-2003 l that was STATUS What solution do you see? End~ thanks in advance
