Spam Cop vs Mailwasher

Just downloaded trial vs of spam cop. Looks pretty good. Has many of the same features and more than Mailwasher. A little easier to move around in and no need to run two programs. Works inside of OE & Outlook.

Does it allow you to see what's on the server before downloading the mail to your puter?

Read about it here>

http://spamcop.net/

I like it because all the users who report spam, it sends a copy to spamcop and the email server from the spammer. This in effect is supposed to build a giant database that the Co uses to make filters for all owners of the software to update.

It sounds kinda like virus definitions for spammers.

The best part is spam cop creates a filter for known spammers and updates all owners systems who have purchased spam cop. I just started using it so I dont know how effective it will be.

So far I like it much more than mailwasher, the user interface is easier and quicker to use.

Mailwasher is a good program though and does a good job. I had used it for at least 2 yrs.

If you're in business, an overly-aggressive spam killer can cost you $$$. IMHO, blacklists are especially dangerous, & run contrary to my libertarian inclinations.

Nevertheless, Mailwasher & SpamCop are distinctly 2 of the best there are right now.

Myself, I prefer a bayseian-type filter such as K9

Why? Because you *train* the filter yourself -- what is spam to you might not be spam to me, & vice versa.

You train K9 by the "good-dog/bad-dog" technique. It's actually fun to do. In a couple of days, you would swear that K9 is reading your mind.

The program is free & quite simple & very small [<100k]. No filters to mess with -- & yes, it will screen mail right on the server if you wish. It doesn't "install" per se -- if you hate it, just delete the folder it's in & poof! It's totally gone.

But I doubt you'll hate it. I love it. Maybe you will, too.
