Don't hate me for using KaZaA first off. i'm not the guy that downloads full cd's and pirated movies. I download songs i hear off the radio because i dont have the old fashion tape recorders, and other things.
For some reason KaZaA and other P2P programs I have tried (iMesh, WinMX, etc), will stop my DSL line from working. I have to power cycle it (unplug the power and plug it back in, for you who don't understand) to get my net to work. Any ideas of what could be giong wrong? (when I say the net is down, i mean I can't use the Internet Explorer or messenging programs. pinging comes back negative) give me your thoughts, mysterio2099 |

First off, try Kazzalite instead of the regular kazaa program. That may help.
Next, try using spybot and adaware to scan for spyware. (just as a side note, PCMech does not condone piracy. Kazaa is just a program, and by itself, is nothing more. What you do with it is up to you, which you do not need to mention )

the problem is that if your using the regular kazaa program and run spybot or adaware, it will find something, but if you get rid of it the next time you go to run kazaa it will not run and tell you to reinstall, then your back where you started.

I have never used Kazaa or any of the other programs you mentioned, however, I think I would look elsewhere for the DSL connection dropping. I think I would start with the cable, NIC etc. I was having that issue and it was a bad RJ-45 cable. I purchased a store bought cable that was a stranded cable. I replaced it with one I made that was solid wire and the problem went away. If software is causing a connection drop there would seem to be something seriously wrong with the OS, which is more unlikely than a bad cable.

If your DSL modem is using USB instead of Ethernet, this may be causing a problem. USB networking (and DSL is technically networking) is not the most reliable and stable way of doing things.
