Typing too slowly in IE6

Ok we have an old computer (Pentium 200, 64MB ram) running Win 98se that is used mostly for internet and typing. I recently had to reformat the harddrive and reinstall windows. After this I d/l 'ed IE 6 SP1 to update the browser. Now, whenever I type (only in IE, however), nothing will happen until I stop, when the cursor starts moving followed by the text. This did not happen before, so I think it is possibly the IE version that is too slow. It has taken me like 6 minutes just to write this post, so if anyone can help it would be relaly great!

Thanks

I have never been able to run IE 6 on Win98 without problems, I would recommend using IE 5.5.

Do you know where I can download it? Because I can't seem to find it on the MS site.

I just installed a new HD for a friend and installed Win98SE and IE6. He hasn't mentioned any problems with it.

Cool

My other PC that wife uses has WIN98 and IE6. No problems. I would look for some other problem other than IE6.

Well I guess you guys are right ... it's a bit faster with 5.5 but typing is still delayed. This didn't happen before I reformatted. Any other suggestions?

Cool

Check startup. Seems like something is starting at boot time that is taking up resources.

Start > Run > Msconfig > Startup tab

no there is nothing running I keep the machine clean.
I don't think it's a memory problem because it doesn't happen in other programs.

The symptoms you describe, especially the typiing lag, could be indicating the presence of CoolWebSearch, which Spybot and AdAware have difficulty removing. Apparently, it uses an installation method nobody seems to have figured out yet, making it particularly difficult to avoid getting.

You can read more about it on, and download a removal tool from this SpywareInfo page.

Wow - this just reinforces my decision to use a non-M$ web browser!

I agree with you, when I started getting the problem in IE, I started using Opera, and the difference was amazing! It was so much faster and easier to use, the only reason I wanted IE working properly again was coz my dad uses it.
