Hi,
Anybody use or recommend a FTP and a www server program that I can install on a Win98SE PC that is being used as a server with a CM attached.
Probbaly something similar to IIS in Win2k would be great.

Thanks

Scott

http://tucows.idirect.com/win95soft.html

or your closest tucows mirror .. look in the Server Tools section.

Be aware of the security risk you are taking up with every server ESPECIALLY on a windows client and ESPECIALLY on windows 9x.

For example the current version of ServU FTP 2.5 has been demonstrated to have NUMEROUS exploitable buffer overflows [check out packetstorm archives]

Cheers

Before i got win2k AS, i used Sambar V4.3 for serving out web pages on a win98 machine. You can download it from http://www.sambar.com. I also used serv-u for a while and it was a good program.

Hehehe .. sorry to be the wet blanket here but:

Sambar 4.3 versions stricken by DoS vulnerabilities
Checkout packetstorm or securityfocus.

Last I heard, the Personal Web Server that comes with Win 98 is as good as any. It does HTTP and FTP.

Personal Web Server is slow...won't notice a difference if you view one or two pages, but anything intensive, and you'll see it lag.

Serv-U's a good FTP server, and you should get Apache for Windows for HTTP, fast and small.
