No matter which DSL isp one uses, it seems that DSL is prone to go down alot. I have had telocity dsl in my house for almost 8 months now. When it works i love it but at times it seems to go down alot. The thing is when it goes down it usually stays down for quite some period of time. 3-4 hours...
My question is why is it that when DSL goes down its down for such long periods of time? Does anyone on these boards know exactly what is crashing and why it takes so long till the service is back up. The symptoms are the same all the time. It's never between me and the DSLAM in the local phone switching office, my dsl modem has never lost snyc. and I can always ping the DSLAM. Now, during summer july and august, my dsl line didnt go down once. It was quite nice, but it seemed that once school was back in the downtimes started up again. Is it simply a problem of the systems in place not being able to handle the ammount of trafic? Any ideas, speculation, etc... Im very curious as to what exactly is happening when DSL goes down... Thanks! My problem is I run a ftp and webserver off my line(just for fun) and getting cable which is actually 2 times faster download--not up though--has dynamic ip--which would be the death of my server... |

Theres an unlimted number of reason why it might go down. My small office has had dsl for 3 months. Its only been down for one 3 hour period. Its just the nature of the beast.
