Webpage password

Hey im just creating a website at the moment and am wondering if theres a way to password protect a section so only people who have the passoword can get into it???

If so could someone tell me how! Cheers guys! Ben.

.htaccess files are the easiest way to go: http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess.shtml (is a short tutorial)
Probably the easiest way to go about protecting directories is check with your webhost's control panel - they probably have a snazzy filemanager/directory protection service that will automatically help you protect directories using .htaccess

If you do not have access to such files, then you will have to use a lot more insecure methods of protecting directories using some scripting language.

I use .htaccess on all of the sites I build (where I need to protect a section of it). Here's a snapshot of a .htaccess file:

AuthUserFile /usr/home/testsite/webpages/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName "Authentication Needed"
AuthType Basic
Limit GET PUT POST
require user admin5634
/Limit

the 1st line tells the system where to look to check the password. .htpasswd holds the user/pw code. There's plenty of tutorials for this topic.
