How do you run IE6 through a proxy server?
Apparently, one way to defeat being tracked on a P2P network is to run your browser through a proxy server. Don't quite understand how to do this. I know you right click on IE6 and click properties/connections/settings to get there, but where would you get a list of proxy servers and what port would you use. Also what is the setting for using local addresses? Thanks.

Hello jacatone:
You have to actually be going thru a proxy server as per your ISP's settings to have the need to go where you are looking to set your proxy server. They, (your ISP), would be the ones that have a proxy server inbetween their network and the internet and if that were the case they would provide you the settings needed so you could browse the net thru their proxy server...

Or you can do a Google search for "proxy servers." There are several lists of proxy servers online, all you have to do is find one.
Then you enter the information in the Connections setup. Be forewarned, going through a proxy server (other than one your ISP may be using) is probably going to slow down your data transfer rates (i.e., internet speeds) drastically. |
